On July 17th 2023, Research Prof. Thomas Finkbeiner, recently showcased the Geothermal Project @ KAUST during a monthly ARC seminar hosted by Saudi Aramco at the KAUST campus.

On July 10th, Prof. Thomas Finkbeiner, attended the highly anticipated anniversary celebration of Baker Hughes' DTC (Dhahran Technology Center) in Dhahran. The event was graced by the presence of numerous esteemed guests from Baker Hughes, Saudi Aramco, KFUPM, and other prominent organizations.

Maria Ardila, a Ph.D. student at ANPERC, recently made a significant achievement by winning the prestigious "Poster Student Award" at the 36th International Meeting of Sedimentology organized by the International Association of Sedimentology (IAS) in Dubrovnik.

Maria Camila Sierra, a Ph.D. student, delivered a captivating presentation at the ARMA Symposium 2023 held in Atlanta, US from 25 June to 28 June 2023. The symposium attracted a large audience, and Maria skillfully addressed several questions raised during her talk.

Geologists have long contested the structure of the Red Sea. Many regard it as an extended rift basin where two continental plates are actively moving apart, while others see it as a fully developed ocean with a mid-ocean ridge and seafloor spreading.

On February 28, 2023, Visiting Faculty, Professor Leonardo Guimarães, Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, presented a special seminar entitled: Numerical Modeling of Water/CO2 Injection in Deformable Reservoirs with the Possibility of Fault Reactivation.

Ph.D. student Abdullah Al Omier won a second-place prize in the KROW 2023 Sustainable Environment and Supply of Essential Needs category for his e-Poster titled "Novel Mixed Wettability Coating of Microfluidics: Applications to Hydrocarbon Recovery and CO2 Storage."

A delegation from ANPERC participated in the recently concluded Middle East Oil, Gas and Geoscience Show (MEOS GEO). They showcased research projects in Energy, Geoscience, and Climate Change.

The journal publishes original research, new developments, and case studies in the field of geomechanics and geophysics, with an application to energy and resources in the Earth’s subsurface. Coverage spans the full scope of geomechanics and geophysics, including theory and analysis, laboratory and field experiments, numerical methods and modeling techniques, engineering applications and technology development related to energy and resources.

ANPERC Ph.D. students Daniela Arias Ortiz and Feras Rowaihy represented the KAUST SPE student chapter at the World Petroleum Exhibition held at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman from 29th to 31st January 2023.

In a KAUST funded project, we are evaluating the CO2 seal capacity of one of the best hydrocarbon seals in the world – the Hith anhydrite.
