ANPERC welcomes Prof. Frans S. van Buchem

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Frans has accepted a Faculty position at ANPERC.  Prof. Frans is an all-round geoscientist with 30 years of worldwide petroleum industry experience and specialist knowledge in carbonate sequence stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Arabian Plate, applied to basin evaluation, play analysis, and reservoir modelling. In the course of his career, Prof. Frans has built up a unique combination of expertise in applied research (IFPEN), exploration and production projects (Maersk Oil, Elf-Aquitaine), and software workflow and geoscience earth model development (Halliburton/Landmark).

His scientific contributions include over 70 publications, over 175 conference presentations, short courses, field seminars (AAPG, IAS, industry), and the supervision of 8 PhD’s, 20 MSc students, and 5 postdocs. He is the author of high-impact publications, the editor-in-chief of two Special Publications, and was the AAPG Distinguished Lecturer for the Middle East 2009.

Prof. Frans holds MSc degrees in Biology and Geology from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and a PhD degree from Cambridge University, UK.

Prior to joining ANPERC, he held the position of Principal Advisor Geoscience at Halliburton/Landmark, Abingdon, UK. Before that, he served as the Principal Geologist at Maersk Oil Exploration Department, Copenhagen, Denmark. From 2006-2010, Prof. Frans was the Lead Geologist at Maersk Oil Qatar, Petroleum Engineering Department, Doha, Qatar.
