"I have a bachelors and masters in petroleum engineering, the advisor I now have for my Ph.D. is well known within enhanced oil recovery globally, Associate Professor Hussein Hoteit. He is the reason I came to KAUST.

"Another striking aspect of KAUST for me is the KAUST Fellowship, it offers more than just financial support, it offers support in all aspects of student development and it's giving me a really unique opportunity." Said Ph.D. student Antonia Sugar from Romania.

The new course has attracted top talent from all over the globe, as well as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who are keen to make their mark in both energy resources and in the petroleum engineering industry.

"I heard about KAUST from my friends, the multicultural environment, bright minds and new experiences. I wanted to work with people from all over the world.

"Ever since I was young I wanted to develop my skills and knowledge in the petroleum engineering industry. It is such an important resource for my country and I have a strong desire to be at the forefront of the industry here." Said Ph.D. student Rami Albattat from Saudi Arabia.

"Since I started I have faced interesting challenges and met great professors like Professor Carlos Santamarina, who has worked with us to widen our perspectives and push our boundaries. I feel that I will develop over time and as a result, I really value the opportunities I am getting during my time at KAUST." Rami continued.

Students on the program participate in scientific research activities that may include mathematical analyses, computational modeling, experimental research and/or field studies. Ph.D. candidates focus on original research driven to advance the boundaries of knowledge.

"I originally came here with my husband and have been living on campus for two years but this is my first year as a new student.

"I was attracted to this course initially by my professor who is well known in the petroleum industry, the course offered a chance to combine my interests in geophysics with specific applications to industry." Said Ph.D. student Indah Putri from Indonesia.

"I'm really enjoying the program. I know I am going to use the knowledge in the future. When I finish I will be applying for a job at Saudi Aramco here in Saudi Arabia, that would be my first choice but if that does not work I will look for work in the industry back home in Indonesia." Said Indah.

The experience of studying in the Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering program is a truly unique opportunity for brilliant M.S. and Ph.D. students who share the dream to make a difference in the field and in the world.
