Mining waste and coal ash dam failures are a serious problem. Understanding why these failures happen is the latest in a series of studies conducted by EGEL. Science Magazine has recently published an article on sediment behavior and construction practices that contribute to these failures. the co-author, Luis A. Torres-Cruz, completed a sabbatical at KAUST in the fall of 2018.
