01 May, 2019
The conference will take place from June 3rd to 6th at ExCeL, in London. According to the EAGE website, it is "the largest and most comprehensive multi-disciplinary geoscience event in the world," with an excepted attendance of 7000 people. Conferences like this one are an opportunity for ANPERC faculty, researchers, and students to contribute to the state of the art in geoscience and engineering. It is also a chance to learn from scientists from around the globe, and represent KAUST to the world.
ANPERC Presentations
Thomas Finkbeiner will present "Comprehensive Characterization of Arab-D Reservoir Equivalent Outcrop Well Cores from Upper Jubaila Formation, Saudi Arabia" on Thursday the 6th at 8:30 am, as "part of a multidisciplinary research project that aims to develop high fidelity geomodels, of Jurassic hydrocarbon reservoirs in Saudi Arabia, suitable for IOR/EOR reservoir simulation studies through careful integration of outcrop and subsurface data."
Postdoctoral fellow Timofey Eltsov will present "Electromagnetic detection of the water cone growth during reservoir development," part of a multi-physics approach to estimating encroachment of watercones. This presentation will take place on Wednesday the 5th at 1:10 pam in room 02.
In addition to its presence in the conference, ANPERC will staff a booth in the technical exhibit portion of the event. The booth number is 1423, and will be worth the visit for prospective students, recent graduates, and scientists looking for a creative, resource-rich environment for research and collaboration. Center Manager Heath Hignight will be there to show off ANPERC's latest research.
Events to Watch at EAGE
The conference is full of useful workshops, seminars, and other events. One that ANPERC will participate in is the Travel Grant Hunt. The Travel Grant Hunt is a scavenger hunt-type quiz program for students attending EAGE. Each participating student receives a card listing university booths that they must visit during the exhibition; at the booth they will be asked a question, and correct answers receive a stamp on the card. Once the student has visited all booths and answered the questions, they submit the completed card to be entered in a drawing for a prize gift of travel expenses for attending an EAGE conference.
The Networking Café, from 2 to 4 pm on June 4, is a chance for students to enjoy refreshments with university representatives in the EAGE Student Hub area, to build up their professional networks with faculty, scientists and other students in the global EAGE community. ANPERC will also be participating in this event.
Thomas Finkbeiner, ANPERC's senior research scientist and EAGE Student Advisory Committee member will be on the jury for the 2019 Laurie Dake Challenge. This "esteemed student contest and award" was created with the aim to promote cross‐disciplinary geoscience and engineering integration within universities.
On June 5 from 5 to 7 pm the Women in Geoscience Session will focus on the conference's theme: "Embrace Change," with a panel of speakers, Q&A sessions, and informal networking. The session does not require pre-registration, and all delegates are welcome to attend.
