Congratulations to our SEG EVOLVE 2020 KAUST team on putting up an exceptional performance and winning three categories at the SEG EVOLVE 2020 program: Best Investment Opportunity in Eugene Island, GOM, Best Map – Kingdom, and Easiest To Work With team. The team comprising of ANPERC students and Faculty represented KAUST at the SEG EVOLVE 2020 program as one of the 25 teams selected from around the world. Team members included: Teyyuba Adigozalova- Team lead and Petrophysicist (MSc in ERPE), Indra Arifianto- Geologist/Geophysicist (Ph.D. in ErSE), Andika Perbawa-Geophysicist Mentor (Ph.D. in ErSE), Elmir Abilov- Reservoir Engineer (MSc in ERPE), and Professor Abdulkader M. Alafifi- Faculty Advisor. According to the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) website, the "SEG EVOLVE Program prepares next generation E&P professionals to embrace digital technologies for project workflows. EVOLVE offers a direct experience in conducting multi-discipline subsurface integration projects using actual seismic, geological and wellbore data."
Using the iEnergy® Halliburton Landmark DecisionSpace Cloud Platform or locally-installed Petrel, Kingdom, or DecisionSpace software, teams utilize modern technology and experiential learning to recommend the "Best Investment Opportunity" in their assigned dataset.
The SEG EVOLVE 2020 KAUST team applied for the Program in November 2019 and got selected to join 24 teams from around the world. They were assigned Kingdom software and Eugene Island, GOM, so as to find their "Best investment opportunities". After challenging weeks of dedicated research and project work, the team successfully completed Mid-Project and Final Project presentation in March and May 2020, respectively. They continued to enhance their project during summer and prepare the final presentation for the SEG Annual Meeting in October 2020.
Commenting on the project, team lead Teyyuba had this to say: "In the process of developing our project, team members honed their Project management, teamwork skills, and business values within the context of exploration, reservoir appraisal, field development planning, and production enhancement scenarios. The program also links experienced Mentors to student teams, which empowered us participants to solve the types of realistic challenges that we will encounter when we start formal work."
Finally, after putting in hard work, enduring challenging days, weeks, months, SEG EVOLVE KAUST team received two highest recognitions 1) Best Investment Opportunity in Eugene Island, GOM 2)"Best map in Kingdom" along with recognition as 3)"Easy to work with" team.
