ANPERC wishes to congratulate Senior Research Scientist Dr. Thomas Finkbeiner on his recent appointment to the Student Affairs Committee for the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers. (SAC-EAGE).
Over the next two years, Finkbeiner will serve with a group of seven esteemed geoscientists from industry and academia, focusing on building strong programming among the student chapters of EAGE around the world—including the recently launched chapter at KAUST. Their many responsibilities include identifying outstanding lecturers to present on EAGE Student Lecture tours, development of student programming at the annual EAGE Conference & Exhibition, and awarding scholarships students.
"The petroleum industry is in a critical transition period right now and I see academia playing a vital role in this process, in particular as discussion of future energy demand and resources intensify," said Finkbeiner. "Educating, transferring knowledge, advising, and promoting students particularly from the Middle East – a region in the hot seat of future petroleum activities and for global energy demand – is important for generating a vision and identifying a mission for the industry's future and its role in the global energy market."
Finkbeiner is not new to serving in such roles. In the recent past he has co-chaired workshop technical committees, served on such committees, and presented keynote talks for EAGE workshops. He's also served in similar capacities for Society of Petroleum Engineers' technical workshops and programs.
ANPERC is proud of Dr. Finkbeiner's commitment to building collaborations and relationships across the scientific community. We look forward to many benefits from his service on this community.
