Dr. Volker Vahrenkamp recently joined ANPERC as Professor of Practice in Geology. Prior to joining us he has had many years of experience in the petroleum industry with Shell E&P companies and was also Managing Director at NordicGeothermal in Dubai.
Today at ANPERC Professor Vahrenkamp’s research will focus on securing the safety of energy supply through three main thrusts:
- Refine the understanding of modern and ancient carbonate depositional environments and associated diagenesis for improved perception of hydrocarbon reservoir heterogeneities on multiple scales,
- Advance the quantification of the complex pore networks of Arabian carbonate reservoirs and its impact on their performance,
- Explore and develop geothermal energy in Arabian countries with special focus on desalination and cooling applications and suitable drilling techniques.
Among his professional and technical distinctions, Professor Vahrenkamp was selected for The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) as a Distinguished International Lecture in 2008.
