A team of ANPERC scientists led by Professors Afifi and Hoteit is investigating the potential for carbon sequestration in Saudi Arabia by the process of mineral carbonation of basalts. They recently conducted five days of field studies in the Jizan area of southwest Saudi Arabia to study outcrops of volcanic rocks that are candidates for permanent disposal of CO2 emitted from power and desalination plants in the area.  Participants included Aboud Afifi, Hussein Hoteit, Froukje Van Der Zwan, Jakub Fedorik, Ali Altammar, and Murtadha Al Malallah.
