Industrial and academic research need each other to survive

BIOGRAPHY:

Tad Patzek is Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the Earth Sciences Division and Director of the Ali I. Al-Naimi Petroleum Engineering Center at KAUST.

Between 1990 and 2014, he was a Professor of geoengineering at the University of California, Berkeley and Chairman of the Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Berkeley, he was a researcher atShell Development.
Patzek's research focuses on fluid dynamics in soils and rocks, global sustainability issues, and
the ecology of human survival. He is particularly interested in the potential of unconventional hydrocarbons and carbonate reservoirs.
