Professor, Heriot Watts, UK
Professor Sebastian Geiger holds the Energi Simulation Chair and is the Director of the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering (formerly Institute of Petroleum Engineering) at Heriot-Watt University. Previously, he was an assistant and associate professor at Heriot-Watt University; spent time as a visiting researcher at the Australia National University, Imperial College London, and Aramco Research Centre in Houston; and was a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich. His research interests include the characterization, modelling, and simulation of naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs across all relevant scales (i.e., from the pore to the reservoir scale). He has authored or co-authored more than 180 technical papers. Sebastian holds a PhD degree in computational geoscience from ETH Zurich, an MSc degree in hydrogeology from Oregon State University, and a Vordiplom (BSc degree) in geology from the University of Freiburg, Germany. He is a member of SPE, EAGE, AAPG, Interpore, and AGU. He is an elected Fellow of the Energy Institute. He received the 2017 Alfred Wegener Award from EAGE for his pioneering research into carbonate reservoir modelling and simulation.
