Gabriel Wittum is Professor for Modeling and Simulation at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He graduated in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Karlsruhe in 1983. He earned a doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the Unviersity of Kiel in 1987 and received a habilitation from the University of Heidelberg in 1991. Prior to Goethe-University Frankfurt, he held chaired professorships at the University of Heidelberg and at the University of Stuttgart. His research is very broad, covering scalable algorithms for high performance Scientific Computing, in particular fast, robust and scalable solvers for large systems of equations like multigrid methods, development of simulation software systems, modeling and simulation of challenging applications like transdermal penetration of pharmaceuticals and drugs, of signal processing in neurons, of biogas production plants, of flow in porous media and many more. For his scientific work he has been honored by prestigious awards, like the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz price and the doIT Software Award. He is author of over 200 scientific publications, 47 students received a PhD under his supervision and thirteen of his former associates hold professorships.
