Prof. Dr. Ernst Huenges is the head of the Section 4.8 Geoenergy at the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences since 1994, and of the International Centre for Geothermal Research which was founded in 2008.

He has an engagement as lecturer for Geothermal Energy Systems at the Technische Universität Berlin. His research interests are related to the development of new technologies for an economical exploration and utilization of geothermal energy for power supply, heating and/or cooling.

Prof. Huenges studied Process Engineering, Physics and Geology and obtained a PhD in natural sciences in 1987 at the University Bonn.
