Engineer, Warm Arctic ehf
Mr Grimur Bjornsson is a geothermal reservoir engineer currently working as independent consultant for various geothermal companies worldwide. He holds BS degree in geophysics from University of Iceland and MS degree in Engineering Science from UC Berkeley, California. His expertise covers most aspects of geothermal resource development, from the early green field exploration work to long term management.
A large part of Grimur´s work is on 3D geothermal reservoir models, using modern simulator like iTOUGH2 and Linux clusters that allow for inverse and parallel calibration of complex reservoir models. He enjoys working on conceptual geothermal reservoir models together with in-house teams of geothermal operating companies. His experience has grown from initially basaltic reservoir development in Iceland to multiple resources around the world, hosted in volcanic and sedimentary geological settings. This includes being a reservoir engineer on the first two geothermal wells drilled in Abu Dhabi and working extensively on geothermal development opportunities in several oil and gas companies’ data rooms.
In addition to the hands-on work for geothermal operators, Grimur has been active instructor at the United Nations University Geothermal Training Program for about 30 years, he joined a committee on defining sustainable geothermal utilization in Iceland, was part of the kick of team for the Carbfix carbon sequestration project in Iceland and serves as external reviewer for the EU funded DEEPEGS project drilling 4-5 km deep wells in Iceland and France.
